Oregon given $3 million for biomass projects

Three biomass energy projects under construction in Oregon have received a total of $3 million from the U.S. Department of Energy.

Gov. Ted Kulongoski said Thursday the federal grants will help expand Oregon's renewable energy production and create jobs in local communities.

Lakeview Cogeneration in Lake County project received $1.7 million. It will produce heat for a local sawmill and electricity for the grid from wood waste and forest thinnings.

The Farm Power Tillamook project in Tillamook County received $1 million. It will take manure from dairy farms to generate electricity.

And the Integrated Biomass Energy project in Wallowa County got $275,000. It will use forest thinnings to produce heat and electricity.
